Google is rolling out clickable “nudges” to encourage people to give Gemini a try and see what the AI assistant can do for them within Google Drive.
Google has been rolling out Gemini, making improvements and integrating the AI model across the company’s platforms and services. In a Google Workspace Update, the company outlines its strategy.
You can use Gemini in the side panel of Google Drive to summarize one or multiple documents, get quick facts about a project, interact with PDFs, have focused conversations about a specific Drive folder, create files and folders and more.
To help you get started with Gemini in Drive even faster, you’ll notice the following clickable “nudges” at the top of your Drive homepage and folders. These will continue to evolve, and can include nudges to:
- Learn about Gemini in Drive
- Summarize a folder in Drive
- Learn about a file in Drive
Despite being caught flatfooted by Microsoft and OpenAI, Google has quickly caught up, with Gemini’s capabilities now rivaling those of ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude.
Compared to its rivals, Gemini has a significant advantage, in the form of Google’s ecosystems of apps and services. By deeply integrating Gemini with Drive and Workspace, Google is tapping into a broad user base that neither OpenAI or Anthropic can easily match.
