Tesla Faces Class-Action Lawsuit Over Privacy Violations

Tesla is facing a class-action lawsuit In the wake of reports that Tesla employees accessed and mocked images from vehicle cameras.

Reports surfaced earlier this week that employees accessed, shared, and mocked images taken from Tesla cameras in spite of the company’s promise that privacy “is and will always be enormously important to us.”

According to the reports, employees shared photos ranging from harmless to incredibly embarrassing. Some images were of individuals naked, others showed the inside of people’s garages, and one video showed a child being hit by a car while riding his bicycle.

Not unexpectedly, Tesla is now facing a class-action lawsuit, according to Reuters. San Francisco resident Henry Yeh has filed the lawsuit, saying employees accessed images and videos for “tasteless and tortious entertainment” and “the humiliation of those surreptitiously recorded.”

“Like anyone would be, Mr Yeh was outraged at the idea that Tesla’s cameras can be used to violate his family’s privacy, which the California Constitution scrupulously protects,” Jack Fitzgerald, an attorney representing Yeh, said in a statement to Reuters.

“Tesla needs to be held accountable for these invasions and for misrepresenting its lax privacy practices to him and other Tesla owners,” Fitzgerald said.

Another important point of the lawsuit is regarding the privacy of children.

“Indeed, parents’ interest in their children’s privacy is one of the most fundamental liberty interests society recognizes,” the lawsuit said.
